If you know and enjoy Brookmyre’s work, you expect his latest novel to be sharply satirical, lightweight, funny, with plenty of farcically over-the-top gory, macabre action. In these respects Be My Enemy will not disappoint.
Still, you wonder where he will go next as a writer. There is a lot of déjà lu here; no attempt to strike out in a new creative direction. The political ambience of his writing remains unchanged. His philosophical centre of gravity is still the radical left playground of the Scottish campus. There are hints in this latest story that his characters may mature from there, but so far only as the postscript to the narrative.

In the middle of Uni exams at the moment so I'm REALLY looking forward to reading this, something that bears no relation to IT and doesn’t take itself to seriously. After which it will be released (somewhere).

This certainly was a nice read to get through the exams with, not too heavy, not too light, just right. :-)
Not having read Brookmyre before this was a really enjoyable read, although I have to say a couple of the characters come across a little "flat". I didn't realise until after finishing it that a some of the main characters have been in several previous books. Maybe having read those first would have made this a little more enjoyable with some more background being present (or maybe not).
Apart from that though it was enjoyable and funny.
