~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I really enjoyed reading the book behind the musical The Phantom of the Opera. The book was a bit different than I had expected, especially in the way that this story was told; as the account of real events by the writer himself, but I liked the book nonetheless.
Right after finishing the book I (re)watched the musical, as the 25th anniversary show "The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall" was broadcasted again on YouTube that weekend to celebrate the musical's 35th anniversary. After reading the book, I missed The Persian in that story, but I understand that his role wasn't really neccesary for the musical. Of course there were more changes to the story/characters, but it was good to be able to compare the book to the musical now, and see how the characters are portraited in the musical versus in the book. And I was quite surprised to read that in the book Christine was a blonde, while I always thought she was a brunette, because I knew her first from the musical.
I also really like that in the book The Phantom has a name, he didn't seem to have one in the musical, although him not having a name adds to the mystery, of course.
