This is a great book. I had never considered the option of designing a nature-based throw away society. I think its a good idea, because it seems clear, most people arent willing to give up luxuries and conveniences in order to save the planet for the benefit of everyone - even me a lot of the time - and i consider myself pretty intense about it all. So basically they are right - what does it matter if you buy a coffee in a disposable cup every day if the cup is made of poplar leaves or something and you can throw it out your car window. I like the analogy of the cherry tree they used to inspire that idea.
The second crazy thing about this book is that it was made of plastic but minus a lot of the usual toxic plastic dyes and other ingredients. The book smells like fresh water, stick your nose in it and see. Maybe the wonderful smell is some kind of sham, but is it possible that plastic wouldnt have to be evil if we made it differently?? Anyway this book surprised me.
