Set in seventeenth-century France, against a backdrop of witch trials, regicide and religious frenzy, this is the story of Juliette.

I have only read Chocolate by this author so I am looking forward to a fresh look at her work.

I really enjoyed this historical tale about a woman who has gone to hide in a remote abbey, and live as a nun. The Holy Mother of the sect dies and a new one is found, a 12 year old who changes everything. At the same time Juliette's past catches up with her in the form of a enigmatic and manipulative former actor and lover.
I found the historic aspects of this book fascinating, with all angles of the life in the Abbey exposed. It felt like I was an observer in a play.

Thanks Billhookbabe! Will read and pass on.
I really enjoyed this book - the storyline is nothing like Chocolat or Coastliners, but her style is still distinct. Going into a bookbox for another bookcrosser to enjoy!
Picked out of Redhouse's "Bookbox for the New Year".
As a previous journaller remarked this takes some getting into but I kept with it and quite enjoyed it. I liked the description of the travelling players and life in the abbey. I have read Blackberry wine which I think is by the same author and thought that was OK but I am not sure I would go out of my way to read another one of her novels.
