Tansy has just lost her alcoholic mother, found she has a brother who was adopted before she was born and lives a heady drug fuelled life in London's Soho. Having been left money in her mother's will, her and her on/off boyfriend decide to go travelling. Then he pulls out so she has to go alone...

What follows is the first novel by Ms Barr and what a cracking opener! Clearly a woman who has travelled the world herself she has taken to incorperating her experiences into book form.

Having backpacked myself I could recognise so many of the character types and had many a private chuckle as 'names' came to mind lol I am NOT going to go into here and now which type of independant traveller I see myself as ;-)

A fantastic light read, full of comic moments as well as the more somber. Perfect holiday reading!

Thank you Olliebear, this looks wonderful! I can't read it straight away as I have several ring books in my TBR, but I'm really looking forward to it.

What a book! The sort of book where you think to yourself, oh, the chapter finishes over the page, so I'll just read to there and then put the book down - only to realise a few minutes later that you've started the next chapter. I loved the e-mail inserts; there aren't many, so they are by no means overwhelming, but it really helps to know the character by seeing how they project themselves to other people.
I found Tansy as a character to be very likeable, despite her character flaws, so it appeared as more of a vindication than a surprise when I learned the background that helped bring the flaws out. I'm still glad that in many ways I am not like her though, nor ever likely to be! (I won't touch on the points that make me jealous of her.)
Not having travelled to the countries she visits, or in the manner she travels, I can't comment on the veracity of those aspects of the book, but they certainly feel real.
Thanks Olliebear for sending this to me! I shall probably release this one later today - a book called Backpack deserves to travel!

Released on Friday, July 30, 2004 at Somerset House, Strand - courtyard in London, England United Kingdom.

On a pillar, around lunchtime. (After all, if I can get a wild catch from a Who's Who there, this one will be a snip!)

As yet unread. Caught by my friend, following being enticed with another piece of literature. My friend doesn't have the technology to register 'wild books', so I'm doing it on his behalf.

It should be happy in Sussex, as it's the home county of the Author, but shortly may take a transatlantic flight to Dallas, when my son returns to the USA.
