"Following the widely acclaimed and bestselling The Summer Book, here is a Winter Book collection of some of Tove Jansson's best loved and most famous stories. Drawn from youth and older age, and spanning most of the twentieth century, this newly translated selection provides a thrilling showcase of the great Finnish writer's prose, scattered with insights and home truths. It has been selected and is introduced by Ali Smith."

Helposti-kuoressa Helsinkiin!
Kiitokset kirjasta ja suklaasta! Tykkään tosi paljon siitä kahvisuklaasta mikä on samaa sarjaa ja tuota en ole päässyt maistamaan vielä. =)
Beautifully written, but all the stories weren't that interesting for me.
I tagged mcsar with this book in the wishlist tag-game. Enjoy!
Thank you for tagging me with the book. I really like The Summer Book and I look forward to reading this.

Enjoyed reading another beautifully written book by Jansson. I don't know how to describe it, there is something about the way she writes and how she thinks that really appeals to me. I like The Summer Book a bit more than this one.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Happy belated birthday! I finished the book in time for your birthday but did not get the chance to post. So it will reach you after your birthday. Enjoy the BC extended birthday celebrations.
I was given the Summer Book by Haugtussa at Oslo Airport when I missed my flight back from the Convention, loved it and immediately put A Winter Book on my wishlist - and now it is here (at the same time as winter is coming) so I am absolutely delighted. Thank you mcsar for sending it {{{{hugs}}}} over the ocean!
What a splendid book of short stories: I love it as much as the Summer Book. On the grey, wintery background she depicts her life on the Finnish coast, from childhood to late in life, determined, stubbon, fearless, imaginative, independent, solitary - but I don't think lonely - illuminating the pages with flashes of sparkling light, the sounds of the sea, the damp, the colours of stone, the textures of sea-worn wood. I specially like the way she can go back into the mind of a child, naive interpretations when not fully understanding, yet confident and self-assured.
Includes a foreward by Ali Smith and afterwords by Philip Pullman, Frank Cottreel Boyce and Esther Freud. It includes photos: her face is fascinating, with high cheekbones and a wide smile, very serious and thoughtful as a child.
For the moment, this is going to live on my bookshelf next to the Summer Book, I may send them both on their way later (or take them to Helsinki).
