I found this fair-condition softcover on the charity-sale shelves at a local Hannaford's, and nabbed it for a release copy. It's one of many books by Henry that take real-life equines and spin stories about them. This edition includes the charming Wesley Dennis illustrations.
There's a good deal of drama and trauma here, from the hard life of a working burro to the hazards of predators, weather, terrain, and more. Spunky Brighty manages to survive, not always unscathed, and even helps to nab the killer of one of his human friends!
The book inspired a 1967 film.
