In his introduction, Ridley comments that "I don't know" is perhaps the most under-used phrase in the English language. This phrase is really the driving force of the best science, in which the questions asked may be as important as the answers provided. Or as Douglas Adams observed in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, "science is just the search for new forms of ignorance."
