The year is 1861. Hervé Joncour is a French merchant of silkworms, who combs the known world for their gemlike eggs. Then circumstances compel him to travel farther, beyond the edge of the known, to a country legendary for the quality of its silk and its hostility to foreigners: Japan.
There Joncour meets a woman. They do not touch; they do not even speak. And he cannot read the note she sends him until he has returned to his own country. But in the moment he does, Joncour is possessed [amazon.com]

I was afraid that the book was like one of Paulo Coelho. Fortunately I was wrong. It's a beautiful story - like a song or a poem.
After reading some will think of The Unavailable, others of The Imperceptible or maybe something else. But they will.
Worth reading.

The book goes to Płock. Enjoy your reading, NowINkA!

Arrived safe and sound, thank you! It may take a while before I decide what to do with it next (read, release or read AND release it) but it's not the end of its journey for sure.

Off it goes to kingfan30 as part of the 2016 Wishlist Challenge (9/4). Enjoy!

What a well travelled little book, thank you so much for sharing :-)
18 Aug 18 - After finishing a rather lengthy classic, I couldn't of chosen something much more different. Probably the shortest book I've read this year and compared to the classic it felt like not a word was wasted. Who'd of thought a story about the buying and selling of silk worms could grab my attention and yet it did. The travelling across world to buy the eggs and the slightly odd love story element to it. I'm not sure I got it completely, but yet I couldn't put it down. A fascinating little book that I would probably never of picked up if it wasn't for the 1001 list.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
You won the book of the month, congratulations Tarna ! I hope you will enjoy this read as much as I did.

The book arrived today. It looks beautiful not only on the outside but also on the inside. The handwritten texts by asia_be_es are just great. There’s also a beautiful bookmark, Three Modern Beauties by Utamaro Kitagawa. (I’ll scan it later,) It’s a ukiyo-e woodblock print and I think I’ve had it as postcard, too, but I’ve sent or given it to someone. It so goes with a book like Silk. As a bonus, also the stamps on the envelope are gorgeous.
But most of all, I’m happy because the author happens to be Italian. I feel do ashamed ‘cause I know eg. Nigerian and Canadian literature so much better than modern Italian authors. And yet I’m European, not African or North American. I’m glad to get to know at least one more Italian writer.
Thank you so very much, Lubiette!

I couldn't let the little book travel on without taking a peek under its covers, and the astonishing art asia_be_es has made alone made me want to give it a go!

It's been a day since I finished the book, and I'm still not sure whether I like it or not. The beginning was quite enchanting, but I'm not quite sure the magic held to the end. Was it rushed? Too simple and disappointing? Did the chapters become unnnecessary long? Perhaps.

I've contacted alexiapapa (who has Mt TBR too high) and cannot get hold of mcsar, so I'll be looking for a new reader for the book.

Yep, Silk will be on the book buffet table in Falkirk! I might travel (again) with just a hand luggage but there's definitely space in my backpack for this thin paperback :) It'll be fun to follow where this book travels from Falkirk :)
