When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first she just thinks he has gone off by himself for a few days and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, it becomes clear that there is more to Quine's disappearance. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published it would ruin lives - so there are a lot of people who might want to silence him. And when Quine is found brutally murdered in bizarre circumstances, it becomes a race against time to understand the motivation of a killer unlike any Strike has encountered before...
I am really enjoying this series and I am looking forward to getting the next one. I did find the references in Quine's book to everyone he knows a little confusing. I kept forgetting who was meant to be whom. Then there was the actually story in his book - quite revolting but in a strangely compulsive reading way. I like Comorant's story though.

While I was searching for another book today, I came across this one, which I actually read some time ago. I must have put it in the box with others that have been read, without remembering to journal it (more and more senior moments!!).
I did enjoy it at the time and am looking forward to reading the third in the series soon.

Liked this 2nd Cormoran Strike's book, although not as much as the first one. It was a bit confusing at times but the overall story is well thought. On to #3!
