Last Anne Tyler book I read was over 20 years ago (Breathing Lessons). This novel I found not to be too dark and very interesting. Spoilers follow.
As for the story, I think the main character here would today in 2016, be considered on the Autism spectrum somewhere but then again perhaps the whole family, due to habits/order/fixations, etc. Novel study of human nature. Holding for now.
