The Demon Prince of Momochi House, Vol. 2
1 journaler for this copy...
The story is about 16-year-old orphan Himari, who has inherited Momochi House - only to find that it has a god-in-residence, Aoi, who wandered in many years ago as a child and was trapped, eventually to take on the powers of a demon. He has supernatural beings as helpers, and seems to have settled in to his new life - but Himari's arrival has upset everything, not least because of the attraction between them.
So far the whole thing feels a bit like Black Bird, at least as far as "human girl finds herself living with a bunch of gorgeous supernatural men, several of whom are attracted to her". The household keeps acquiring new members, too, including one little yokai who thinks his (gorgeous) human form is horrifying... The tone shifts from goofy to romantic to suspenseful, with hints of nasty fates in store if they characters can't work out who's really supposed to be the demon of Momochi House.
The book takes an interesting twist later on, with some of Himari's school-friends wanting to visit her home; cue lots of role-playing-as-family-members by all the yokai-in-residence - and the revelation that one of the friends is actually dead!
My favorite part of this volume was the heart-wrenching flashback to scenes of little Aoi's first days trapped in the house, before the resident spirits began to take care of him. So sad... I may check in to future volumes to see how things work out for the characters.
