Bookswap time! Hope you'll like it. :)
Thank you anathema-device for the nice chat and coffee. Book will be read throughout the holidays :)
The book cover looks absolutely lovely already.
The plot
After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season and shore leaves are granted every other year at best, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby’s cries on the wind.
My thoughts
... yeah I have mixed feeling about this book. For some reason I expected something completely different from the story. The nice bookcover and the title Light between the Oceans may have been my favorite part of this whole novel.
The backcover told me "It gets into your heart stealithily, until you stop hoping the characters will make different choices". No, no no no. I never stopped hoping they, or rather Isabel, would make different choices. They were clearly 100% wrong, no matter how you look at it. This whole thing isn't even a moral conundrum.
I think this is the type of novel some people really enojy, but I don't.
Apparently there is a movie adaption coming out next year. I definitely will watch that to see if I like it in movie form more. Also Michael Fassbender ;)

I've enjoyed this book. I did develop some hate for Isabel but also had to cry at the end. There were no winners.
I kind of understood Isabels despair and kind of understood why she did what she did.
Still a bit mad though about the sweeping under the rug of what the townspeople did.
