Donated to my bookshelf by my friend "B" who has read it and released it without even knowing!
From Amazon:
"As brilliant and quirky as THE NAME OF THE ROSE, as mischievous and wide-raning....A virtuoso performance."
THE SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE
Three clever book editors, inspired by an extraordinary fable they heard years befoe, decide to have a little fun. Randomly feeding esoteric bits of knowledge into an incredible computer capable of inventing connections between all their entires, they think they are creating a long lazy game--until the game starts taking over....
Here is an incredible journey of thought and history, memory and fantasy, a tour de force as enthralling as anything Umberto Eco--or indeed anyone--has ever devised.

I read 'In the name of the rose' a long time ago, and really enjoyed it. I hope this one is not too taxing on the the old gray matter though...

I have to admit, that I was not 'grabbed' by this book, but then I did only read 15 pages...

I have a mound of books to read at present, and as this is part of a bookray, I thought I best pass it along.

So, I have returned it to Littlemauve and will try to read again another time.

Thank you Littlemauve.

Sorry for the delay, this got lost in the cupboard when jubby gave it back to me - whoops!
Posted off to MsMello this morning.
After her it will be EDDI, then Boreal, and me, unless anyone else puts their hands up for it!

It's arrived safe and sound! Thanks littlemave. I'll start it this weekend. Looks challenging.

Journal Entry 7 by EDDI from Melbourne CBD, Victoria Australia on Friday, June 18, 2004
Received today, thanks. It looks incredible. Can't wait to read it. Should be able to start it in a week or two.

I give up! I read about 100 pages and while Eco's writing is amazing, I just am not in the frame of mind to read this sort of book right now. Sorry littlemave :( . I will pm boreal and mail it this week.

It has arrived!
This looks like it will keep me out of mischief for a while, I hope I fare better than the previous readers though.
Thanks for sending it.

I tried and tried but I couldn't manage to read this, sorry! I have been told it takes a while to get into and when you do it is worth it, but it just didn't do anything for me. I got up to the 100 page mark and if you asked me now what it was about I couldn't tell you :-)
Hopefully some of the future participants will have more luck than me.

Posting to Jessy-M today, I was all ready to post it on Monday but we woke to snow here on that morning, the first fall of winter and the heaviest for many years, and as a result just about everything shut down for the day.

Thought all you Aussies would like to see my garden in the snow! Some had melted by the time I took the photo, as my camera battery had decided to go flat at the wrong time. If you look closely at the foreground of the photo you can see some daffodils peaking bravely through the snow!

Are you sure you want to delete this item? It cannot be undone.
