I picked this up at a secondhand bookstore in Winnipeg. The back cover describes it as "bold, lyrical, and prodigious".
I'm reading this one now.

About 450 pages into the book, a character described only as "he" relates his thoughts about this very book, saying "You've slapped together travel notes, moralistic ramblings, feelings, notes, jottings, untheoretical discussions, unfable-like fables, copied out some folk songs, added some legend-like nonsense of your own invention, and are calling it fiction!"
This is exactly what this book is about and I'm not sure what I think about it. Generally, I like my fiction to have some sort of a plot and some kind of character development and I didn't come across much of that here.
However, some passages are wonderful and read like poetry and there are many beautiful descriptions and observations about the Chinese countryside.
It is available for anyone who might be interested in it. I'll probably wild release it in the summer.
