I read this book as part of gnissorckoob's release challenge -- "read something you would never normally read." Louis L'Amour fit this bill. It wasn't the excruciating task I thought it would be. I have never had any interest in Westerns -- but actually I didn't even GET a Western with this book -- I got a U.S. Air Force Major, a Soviet prison camp, and Siberia -- so I guess this was not a true test of "normal" L'Amour. It was more like a low tech, fewer pages Tom Clancy.
