This was the third book by Sarah Addison Allen that I have read. It was her first published novel. I call it an adult fairy-tale (i.e., "magical realism"). This one has the same elements that I loved about the other books: strongly realized female characters (flawed and gifted/vulnerable and strong); romance that is satisfying, but not the only element of the story; characters that come into their own; and a mystery or two to unravel. Haven't read the more recent book, "First Frost", that follows up with the same characters, but looking forward to it.
