High school is tough enough without throwing a hijab into the mix...
What's my class going to say on Monday when I walk in wearing the Muslim veil for the first time? Oh boy, will they freak out. Shawling up? In front of the kids of Year Eleven? It would be easier to walk in naked.
Amal's decision to wear the hijab fulll-time takes a lot of guts. Can she cope with the prejudice, keep her friends, and still attract the cutest boy in school?

Last month I read the Finnish translation of this (Näyttääkö pääni tässä isolta?, https://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/15901224/) - for the Australia Challenge on the Finnish BC forum of course ;) The story didn't impress me very much, it was quite quick to read and at some points also entertaining, but mainly it just made me worried about the quality of Australian youth literature. How come this has won the Australian Book Industry Award and Australian Book of The Year Award for older children??! A mediocre Finnish youth novel beats this 6-0 and our best ones are in a totally different league!

I do read youth novels occasionally but this one was slightly too one-dimensional and educational for me. I gave up on page 76/351. Glanced the ending but no suprises there eirher.

Leaving this in the Kalasataman Vapaakaupunki (Free City of Kalasatama) in Redi mall if no-one wants it at the meetup there.
Seen the head in Redi and it does look big. Too big for me.
