Catchy prose. Pages one and two are extraordinary description. Postwar Steinbeck at his best.

----
The Merriam-Webster Encyclopedia of Literature says: Novel by John Steinbeck, published in 1945. Like most of Steinbeck's postwar work, Cannery Row is sentimental in tone while retaining the author's characteristic social criticism. Peopled by stereotypical good-natured bums and warm-hearted prostitutes living on the fringes of Monterey, Calif., the picaresque novel celebrates lowlifes who are poor but happy.

Have read it before but will re-read again tonight. A truly great American classic and a great American author who was in tune with the working class and suffering they endured during those times. (as many continue to endure to this day)
Book will be left by Barbaras Fishtrap in Princeton-By-The Sea on July Fourth.
