Excellent book.
Carrie has her life set out for her. At age 14 she meets her true love in Madison WI. They are inseperable, until at age 23 she is becoming restive, and a little out of sorts.
At the traditional Memorial Day picnic, Mike, her fiancee, trying to regain the joy and wonder in Carrie's regard takes a long dive off a short pier. You know where this is going, but you don't.
A wonderful exploration of an old topic of self-sacrifice, growing into maturity, expectations and so on. An ending that lives up to the book's excellence.
