It's a mistake to read this, as many have, as a legitimate sequel to To Kill A Mockingbird. This is Harper Lee's early draft, which she reworked considerably before coming up with her eventual masterpiece. This should be obvious to anyone who's familiar with that novel, since there are a couple of blatant factual discrepancies between the two versions. So everyone needs to calm down with the "Atticus is a racist!" hysteria and see this as an interesting look into the writing process (which maybe shouldn't have been published at all, but it has been, so there we have it).
