Saint Maybe

Anne Tyler has such a wonderful way with characters. Saint Maybe is about a family haunted by a tragedy and all the ways different members of the family deal with it....focusing mostly on one of the boys of the family. Set in the 1960s/70s and with profound messages about the role faith and redemption play in our lives. Sounds rather heavy-handed but actually there are many light laugh-out-loud moments. It reminded me greatly of how years ago my brothers and I handled an ongoing huge family crisis...with a good deal of dark humor and midnight phone calls.
