"La peste" es una novela contemporánea de carácter humanista, en la que el autor narra la historia de la ciudad de Orán cuando se ve afectada repentinamente por una peste, y como durante esta etapa valores como la moral, la honestidad y la solidaridad invaden los corazones de algunos de los personajes.
