Following the loss of her mother, eight-year-old Evie is sent to a new life in rural Wales – a dripping place, where flowers appear mysteriously on doorsteps and people look at her twice. With a sense of being lied to she sets out to discover her family’s dark secret – unaware that there is yet more darkness to come with the sinister disappearance of local girl Rosemary Hughes.

Now many years later Eve Green is waiting for the birth of her own child, and when she revisits her past something clicks in her mind and her own reckless role in the hunt for Rosie’s abductor is revealed…

The book was still on Vanilia+Kanela's BookCrossing shelf yesterday. I think it got quite a rest, so it's now ready to explore the world a bit. As a baby-step, it will travel with me to Delphi and after I read it I think it will feel confident enough to possibly travel abroad somewhere...

Thank you Lubiette for registering : )

7 out of 10

I didn't know what to expect from this book but it turns out this was a rather moody novel, touching on many different subjects such as love, loss, finding one's self, sense of belonging, how prejudices might affect one person's life, growing up and much more...

It is a first person narration, consisting of the main character's childhood when she was 7-8 years old and of her present life in her late twenties. The book is written on a beautiful, poetic prose and the plot is interesting up to an extend. That said, I can see why some people might not like this novel. Many mysteries remain unsolved (that was maybe the point, but still...) while the story lacks of excitement somehow, so the book might feel monotonous if one is not in a mood for this kind of read.

Personally I "enjoyed" it, but I felt that it could be a bit shorter and less detailed/descriptive at parts.
6+/10
