Liberated this from a car boot sale recently for not a lot of money! really excited, as I have wanted to read this for a long time. I really admire her music. The lyrics are excellent.
This book fascinated, entertained, shocked and inspired me. I laughed and cried my way through it. Firstly I’m very impressed she wrote this herself, but I shouldn’t be surprised as her brilliant songwriting is what I really love about her. Secondly I was really surprised by how many intimate details of her life she included! Some of which made me very uncomfortable, especially where she was justifying the abusive and harmful behaviour of her (step)father. Her life is a pretty incredible rags to riches story and this book gives the reader a truly fascinating behind the scenes look at what it takes to come from nothing, earn your place and keep it. I’m learning a lot of the biggest and most successful stars have very similar stories (like Tina Turner and Elvis Presley). That must be why they can’t stop working! There is a real fear of falling back to the poverty and hardships they came from, which I understand. Shania tells us about the gruelling work schedule she felt she had to endure to keep her fame. It’s inhuman. I don’t think just because they are getting lots of money and perks that it’s justified working people like that. I really loved reading about life in Canada, as it’s very different from my central London council estate upbringing.
Posting this off to Spain for a fellow BookCrosser to enjoy. Apologies for the delay, hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
