Half-American, half-Japanese, Rei Shimura is finally beginningto feel like Tokyo is home. Now a writer on art and antiques at the Gaijin Times, a comic-style magazine aimed at affluent young readers, Rei's latest assignment is a piece on the history of comic book art. During a weekend of research and relaxation at her boyfriend Takeo's beachside house, Rei stumbles upon the perfect subject: an exquisite modern comic that reveals the disturbing social milieu of pre-World War II Japan.
Rei art story, evolves into something much darker. One of the comic's young creators is found dead -- a murder that soon takes the tenacious Rei deep into the heart of Japan's youth underground. Immersed in the investigation, she finds herself floating through strip clubs, animation shops, and coffeehouses to get the true story -- and save her own skin.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Pour notre rencontre d'octobre. J'ai particulièrement aimé ce roman policier bien documenté sur le Japon.
Pris au meet-up.
Not the most gripping of plots, but one learns a lot about the japanese culture and way of life. Interesting

Released 2 yrs ago (9/25/2021 UTC) at MBC Strasbourg in Strasbourg, Alsace France
WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Un livre apprécié des lecteurs strasbourgeois, il fait partie du TRESOR offert aux participants du MBC.
I have previously read The Salaryman's Wife, which I believe is the first book of the series. However, I do not know the second not third one. Is that an issue? Not that I recall much of the first book either...
The Salaryman's Wife did not leave any impressions with me and this volume might not either. The story drew me in, but I didn’t really enjoy the characters or the story much. Something felt missing and the end was unexciting. I also didn’t understand the need to discuss Rei’s sexuality, which didn’t add much to the plot (although the opening scene amused me). Maybe reading the series overall would have benefited my experience of this volume.
