This is an outstanding family classic novel that I've read back in my old junior high school days! MY SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN by the award winning author Jean Craighead George still stands as one of the best written nature survivalist novels for children since it first debuted during the late 1950's. Sam Gribley runs away from the concrete jungles of New York City to the Catskill Mountain wilderness to forge a life on his own. With only a penknife, a ball of cord strings, an ax, $40 dollars, and some flint and steel, he must rely on his ingenuity and on the resources of the land to survive in the wild. This is Sam's account of his adventures and himself in the process. What an extraordinary tale!
