The author appeared to write straight forward, telling the stories of women behind the veil in a number of different countries. I found myself wondering why women in the free world are not up in arms over the way women are being treated in these countries. This book was written in the 1990's pre 9/11. I found myself wondering how the lives of these women have changed since the book was written and with the rise of ISSI and other more militant groups.
