"A new historical mystery series from this renowned author."

"1262: When Niccolo Zuliani, Venetian entrepreneur and explorer, is down on his luck in the Crimea, he is dragged out of the gutter by Friar Alberoni. The priest wants him to be his bodyguard for an amazing journey to the court of the Mongol overlord, Kubilai Khan, whose streets are rumoured to be paved with gold.
Zuliani jumps at the chance, but he regrets his decision when he becomes embroiled in solving the murder of Francesco Pisano, the man Alberoni was seeking."

I pulled this book out of my TBR pile yesterday during our shelter in place order for the covid-19 pandemic. I found myself pulled into the story. I love historical fiction and I enjoy murder mysteries occasionally. This was a fantastic combination of the two. I am definitely going to keep my eyes open for other books in this series and by Ian Morson in the future. I just wish that I hadn't left this unread for so long.
