Sending off on a journey in "The Otherworldly" bookbox.

Journal Entry 3 by wingGoryDetailswing at Nashua, New Hampshire USA on Thursday, May 03, 2018
I'm claiming this from the Otherworldly bookbox. I enjoyed Funke's novel Inkheart, though later books in the series were less entertaining; will see how this tale of a ragtag bunch of misfits - a dragon, a Brownie, and an orphan - set out on a quest to find a safe haven for the dragon.

There are thumbnail illustrations on each chapter, and some additional illustrations throughout,

Among my favorite bits: when Sorrel is captured, and two professors are arguing about what she is; one has it correct, the other thinks she's a monkey - so she starts calling him names using poison-mushroom varieties. (Alas, the recipient of her attentions thinks she's babbling monkey-noises; it's the other professor who can hear what she's saying.)

The story culminates with a desperate battle against the alchemically-crafted dragon-devouring golden dragon Nettlebrand - and, this being a book for children, it resolves rather nicely, though there are some very suspenseful bits in the middle. It's a typical "ragtag band of misfits work together to defeat unstoppable foe" story, but nicely done.

[There's a TV Tropes page on the book, with some entertaining tidbits. ]
