Journal Entry 1 by Cfreckle from Sheffield, South Yorkshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, July 7, 2015
Ellie has to admit that life as a grown up isn't what she expected.

She wanted a penthouse apartment with billowing curtains and an impossibly handsome and sensitive man - preferably her teen idol Andrew McCarthy, the 80's Brat Pack movie star.

She got: a poky flat shared with a Big Bastard who isn't even her boyfriend, and a sense that, somehow, things haven't gone according to plan for her and her friends. Julia won't marry her boyfriend, because he's way too nice, and Siobhan thinks that salvation can be found in the isles of Ikea.

But perhaps the coolest wisest Brat Packer of them all can tell them where they went wrong? Armed only with the homicidally grumpy Julia, two weeks' supply of Cheez Whizz and an irrepressible optimism, Ellie sets off to Hollywood to fling Andrew McCarthy and get the answers to life's big questions.

She hopes...

Nice easy read. Especially fun if the 80's were an influential time in your life!

Taken from Flutterbies9's Random Bookbox. I like Jenny Colgan's books & don't think I've read this, can't see it on my shelf anyhow ;o)

Yes, I had read this but Jenny Colgan is always good fun so a re-read was no great hardship... & I liked the film- themed chapter titles :o)

I'm taking this one out of the box to read, though first it will have to endure a spell on tbr!

I note that Plum-Crazy apparently took this out of my Random bookbox and added it to this one, but as I had never put that in my bookbox, I thought I might read it myself!

Journal Entry 8 by Flutterbies9 at Meare, Somerset United Kingdom on Monday, July 3, 2017
Hmm, one sleepless night and another easy to read book read! This was meant to stay on tbr for a while but has somehow found itself read already.

I had previously read this author's 'Talking to Addison' as well as all the Rosie Hopkins series to date so I knew what to expect from this book. However, this one was a little easier to read than even I expected! Unfortunately for me, I could raise no empathy for the main character Ellie (in fact I actually found her extremely annoying! - no-one reaching thirty could possible be so self unaware and childish as this), and so I found this a little more difficult to enjoy than I had expected. For me, this is not one of Jenny Colgan's best books but it is an easy read nonetheless.

For once, I actually do have a plan for this, so it is going on a pile of birthday books for later this month.

A little light relief for the summer - if there is any summer by the time you get this!!

Happy travels little book.

Yahoo - a relaxing, summer time read book in my birthday box from Flutterbies9 which arrived on the 2nd of August. First apologies for the delay in making a JE next I have to say this book presents me with a BookCrossing serendipity moment as I have avoided reading this for years having seen it regularly in charity shops but not been inspired to read it. Now I have a copy in hand from Flutterbies9 I feel duty bound to give it a go!

EDITED TO ADD: Really glad to have had this as a distraction through troubling times dealing with illness in the family, this is a hoot. Ellie is a loveably ditsy young woman in search of herself, as are the bunch of endearing fruit-loops that are her friends and family. And thought the impulsive and notably ill-advised trek to North America to track down Andrew McCarthy is quite unbelievable its also truly side-splitting stuff you just cannot help going along with in the heat of the moment! A continuous round of whacky hopeful moments, wild misunderstandings and truly astounding coincidences propel our travellers through adventurers large and small. A cheering thing to know there are more of Jenny Colgans books out there for me to encounter!

A quick and mostly enjoyable read. Not as much fun as I thought it would be, having read this author before.

Well, I was after an easy read after having read a rather heavy emotional one but unfortunately this was just too silly and not really funny.
Yes, I got all the 80s references and I too had a crush on Andrew Mccarthy, Emilio Estevez and the other Brat Packers and I was perhaps expecting too much from this book ( Jenny Colgan is usually a lot funnier !) Shame really
