An enjoyable read told through the narratives of three women all with their own problems, all connected by a single link. They weren't easy to like, but then I don't think they were ever supposed to be likeable. The switching between the time periods got irritating at the beginning but it made sense half way through when they started to catch up and piece together.

Couldn't get into this, as I found the characters so unlikeable & I couldn't get past that. Sending it on to purple-pixie, as I'm so slow reading it that otherwise it will be after my holiday before it gets sent.

Initially I thought I wouldn't get into this book, I too didn't like the women whose story it is, but when I did get into it I really enjoyed it.
Journal Entry 10 by bookfrogster at Edinburgh, Scotland United Kingdom on Friday, September 25, 2015
I am home yesterday after a couple of days away to find this waiting for me. I then basically spent yesterday evening / night and this morning reading it and have finished it already! I thought it was really good. I liked how the writer had you viewing the women in one way and as you got to know more about them and the other characters your perceptions changed. I have seen this compared to Gone Girl, but for me, this was a far more plausible story.
I've PMed Cross-patch so this should be travelling on to the next reader very soon.
PS Meant to say, the lovely PurplePixie also included a handmade bookmark and a rubber in the shape of a book! Thank you. :-)

I don't know why I haven't journaled this book! I just found it under a pile. So sorry! I'll read it straight away. Thank you to HappyHarryBabe and bookfrogster for making it available and for getting it to me.

It seems I've been getting untidy with my books, because having read it and enjoying it very much, especially since I ironed out all the confusions gained by listening to it on Radio 4, I then put it down in the wrong pile and forgot all about it. I am sorry to have held up every body else's chance to enjoy this interesting read! I shall try to get it on its way straight away - and to get tidying up.
Arrived safely in the post this morning, thank you.
Gripping book, despite having a bunch of unsympathetic characters. Need a good shake' the lot of them. Keeps you wondering whodunnit almost to the end.
Thank you for inviting me to join your ring, HappyHarryBabe.

This has arrived safely in the Swiss Alps - behind another book or two that need to be read first, I'm afraid. I hope to get to this soon. Thanks so much for sending, and all the best for a great 2016!
Journal Entry 18 by penelopewanders at Hasliberg, Bern / Berne Switzerland on Sunday, January 31, 2016
This was a good read, and having the main character be such an "unreliable witness" is an interesting twist. The book reminded me a bit of Gone Girl in terms of pacing and mood - I suspect this may be trendy these days. There were plenty of twists to the story, and it was good entertainment, so I'm not sure what it is that leaves me less than fully enthusiastic. Perhaps it's just the bleakness of it all? At the end of the day, it seems to me that practically every character in the book could have done the deed - or it could even have turned out to be a major con or a hoax at the end... So maybe that's why I'm less than euphoric after spending 24 hours with this crew. It's here as a ring, and should travel again soon. Thanks so much for making it available, and for sending.

Received safe and sound - thank you! Will finish my current read and get on with this one. Thanks for sending.
An enjoyable page turner and I did enjoy the thoroughly disreputable cast of characters. I think it will make a very good film.

Book arrived today. I'm looking forward to reading it to see if it lives up to the hype. Thanks for including me.

I'll be starting this book later today. My hubby read the first 120 pages and quit on it.

A previous reader said they had seen this book compared to Gone Girl. I would almost swear Gillian Flynn and Paula Hawkins are one and the same. Both books have the same feel, are written in the same awful format and leave a bad taste in your mouth. Not sure what I liked or why I felt compelled to finish it. I, too think this story was better than Gone Girl and that it will make a good movie.

So delighted to receive this book in a lovely hardcover edition, so it is on the very top of the TBR pile, which means I should get to it within a couple of days. Thank you so much for making me part of this ring!
I needed to read The Girl on the Train because it is part of a bookring, so another reader is waiting for it, but I was actually ready for a mystery/thriller, a fast read after some rather heavier reading recently, so I was glad to have this at the top of the reading-to-do soon pile. There have been comparisons to Gone Girl, and generally comments are that if you liked the one, you'll like the other, and if not, then not. They are both "mysteries" with a thriller edge, but I never considered Gone Girl a real thriller, and all the story of that one revolved around one couple. Here the story is more convoluted because there are more main characters involved. Overall Paula Hawkins has been successful; she writes smoothly, dialogue is realistic. the characters are well drawn, and she definitely manages to keep the reader both on edge and unable to figure things out for quite a long time. The story is told in three different voices. There is Rachel, the "girl on the train" and then there is Megan (SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT HERE) whose disappearance in the middle of the book is the lynchpin around which all the different voices coalesce, and lastly Anna, the woman now married to Rachel's ex. Megan and Rachel are both very messed up, and their messy lives come to light little by little. Rachel is the main protagonist, although all these women and the men they encounter or are involved with all intertwine. It is fairly confusing to have the time frame shift along with the voices, and you have to keep track of the dates heading each piece to start putting things together. The only thing that really got under my skin was when some of the narration simply couldn't be possible unless you accept the omniscient narrator who is able to say what is going on in people's heads. And that creates some irrationality in the voice of the tale being told. But I zoomed through this in barely a day and a half and enjoyed it very much.
Have finished this book and am sending it along to Valpete, next on the bookring! Thanks to all for sending it my way!
Wow! Some great comments about this book. It's my book club selection for July, so I'll surely be done with it by the middle of July. Thanks for including me!
This kept me guessing the entire book. I was never sure "who done it!" Thanks for including me in this Ring. I've PM'd the next reader and will get it moving as soon as I hear back from her.
Sending it on to the next reader. Enjoy!

The book was waiting for me at the post office when I returned home from my cruise. Thanks for sending. I am looking forward to reading this book. It is on the top of Mt.TBR.
This was an interesting read. I kept trying to figure out who the killer was. Many of the characters weren't who they seemed on the surface. There were many twists and turns throughout the book. Because of Rachel's instability, no one wanted to believe anything she said she remembered about that night.
The book is ready to move but I have not been able to get an address from zbird. I will contact the organizer and see what they would like me to do.

Received in the mail from dabercro, thanks for sending it. Thanks too for including me in the ring. I will read and get it sent on. I have only heard good things about this one, and I love suspense thrillers. Just have a book or two to get finished.
First, my sincere apologies for taking so long with this one. Normally, I get ring books done within a month, but life got in the way, I guess.
I certainly understand why the comparisons to Gone Girl as there was a lot going on. Three persons' perspectives...three stories all wrapped up in the same lying man. Lots of twists and turns, but could almost see the inevitable ending from the moment that Rachael began interacting directly instead of being the random observer from the train.
Will get it into the post this week, winging its way Down Under.

Still with me. Billbooks asked to be skipped because he received a copy as a gift. LilyKlip asked to be skipped because she has already read it. Will contact next member, and hopefully get it sent out in the next few days.

i enjoyed the book very much. Especially because I read it mostly during my train commute (...)! It's a well written book, however not too difficult to find the killer. I am looking forward to watching the movie in order to compare!

To a fellow bookcrosser
Wow - such a good book! It took me a while to get into as I struggled with the changing of characters and jumping in time, but it soon became a couldn't put down book.
I made the mistake of watching the film shortly after finishing the book and I found that to be more of a let down than I had anticipated. I probably should have waited a little so that some of the details became a bit fuzzy in my memory so that the film had some suspense to it!
Feltre was next on the book ring, but received a copy as a gift recently. So, the book is on it's way home to HappyHarryBabe. Thank you so much for sharing your copy - I really enjoyed reading it!
