Shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years, caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it, Charlie is attempting to navigate through the uncharted territory of high school. The world of first dates and mixed tapes, family dramas and new friends. The world of sex, drugs, and music - when all one requires to feel infinite is that perfect song on that perfect drive. Standing on the fringes of life Charlie has a unique perspective of the world around him, but there comes a time to stop being a wallflower and see what it looks like from the dance floor. This haunting novel about the dilemma of passivity vs. passion has become a modern classic. Charlie's letters are singular and unique, hilarious and devastating and through Charlie, Stephen Chbosky has created a deeply affecting story that will spirit you back to those wild and poignant roller coaster days known as growing up.
I am not the biggest fan of young adult literature, but this one really struck a chord. The struggle with social awkwardness, loneliness and bouts of depression felt very well shaped. I hated not knowing more about the context of the letters, and I hated the way everything had a cause and an effect in the end. Nonetheless, a book I've read in a few breaths, and a very nice companion on a flight from London back in April, when I was returning from my first annual BookCrossing convention, held in Oxford.

And here it is! Thank you lamelemon for sharing this book with me! :D
I had already watched the movie based on this book so I had no special expectations when I started reading it. That said, I likes the book very much, the letter writing way the book is writen suitd it just fine.
And, if you likes the book, certainly you will like the movie, it has the exact same vibe.

Received this one in the mail today, thank you Motherof11! Looking forward to read this one!
This was a nice book for my holiday. Sometimes I found the characters a little too wise beyond their years, but overall a good read. I think if I read this when I was younger, I would have liked it more.
