One Hundred Million Hearts

Haven't read this yet but I will be passing this along to a visiting Bookcrosser!
Thank you so much Jessibud!! You deducted correctly that this is the type of book I'm interested in, and it's so sweet of you to take the time to find something I will enjoy. It's really nice to see you again in Toronto after so many years.
The story starts out a bit aloof, shaky and fractured, with characters drifting on and off stage, saying odd things and behaving weirdly. As Miyo finds out more of her father's secret pass, and the older characters, the war survivors, appear, the story gets more solid and interesting. The result, a poignant and eloquant tale, is very satisfying.
I learn more about Manchuria and Japan during WWII, and the various voices provide a kaleidoscope of emotions and thoughts of that period, and that between young and old generations.
Thanks again Jessibud for giving me this beautiful book. The real bookcover, btw, is much more lovely than the picture here. I will likely save this book for the next Asian book box.
