There are to few pictures of funny looking potatoes...
Willam de Worde, the editor for the first newspaper of the Discworld are about to change the way people looks upon news, politics and vegtables. A very funny book staring tons of intresting persons including for exampel Otto, the vampire with tendency to turn to dust when ever he is taking a picture, which can be quite disturbing if beeing a fotographer.

I really liked this one. Maybe it's because I'm a writer for a newspaper, but a lot of it made sense to me. Funny as usual, and I hope the next person enjoys it. I'll be PMing them today.

My DH picked this up at the post office for me on 5/5. I'm sorry for the delay in journaling but I've been ill for a couple weeks ... and just now catching up on things. I received this from LAbklvr in SC (along with Feet of Clay) ... as part of a bookring. I plan to start reading it as soon as I'm done with the other Discworld book. I'm sorry to report that the cover has come unglued from the spine. I might try to repair it with some tape.

c. 2000 -- 444 pages -- Paperback -- #25 Discworld series -- #15 on BC 2008 Favorites list (series) -- #193 on BBC's Top 200 Books

Back Cover: William just wants to get at the truth. Unfortunately, everyone else wants to get at William. And it's only the third edition ... William de Worde is the accidental editor of the Discworld's first newspaper. Now he must cope with the traditional perils of a journalist's life -- people who want him dead, a recovering vampire with a suicidal fascination for flash photography, some more people who want him dead in a different way and, worst of all, the man who keeps begging him to publish pictures of his humorously shaped potatoes.

UPDATE (6/3/05): I finished "Feet of Clay" today and will start reading "The Truth" tomorrow. You can see further daily updates on my bookshelf profile.

UPDATE (6/23/05): I was going to PM Tribbles today but they have their PMs turned off. So I guess I'll move on to the next person on the list. UPDATE 6/26 - Have address for next person.

I finished reading this today. I almost rated it as a 9, but it dragged a bit in the first half, so I have to go with an 8. The second half really picks up and unfolds into a great story. It had me laughing numerous times. Long live Freedom of Speech!!!

Quote (page 140-41): "his father had been right about one thing, at least, when he'd asserted that lies could run round the world before the truth could get its boots on."

(page 400): "Mr. Pin was feeling quite calm now. The mountains of madness have many little plateaux of sanity."

(page 429): "Do you mean that the public is a different thing from the people you just see walking about the place? The public thinks big, sensible, measured thoughts while people run around doing silly things? ... I have certainly noticed that groups of clever and intelligent people are capable of really stupid ideas."

Journal Entry 10 by Atenea-Nike on Monday, September 12, 2005
Oh my god! Forgive me for taking so long to make the journal entry. I read it in a couple of days but afterwards I had to move out of my rented flat for the summer (it's not a year-long rental) and then back in in September, so this poor little book got forgotten in the bottom of a box. It was extremely funny, and now I'll pm the next in the list to get this book mving as soon as possible. I'm terribly sorry!
