The Goldfinch has been described as ‘a Dickensian dazzler.’ Whilst I can see the comparison to Dickens, it is by no means dazzles and whereas an 800 page Dickens tome would be full of atmpspheric detail, this was padded with filler and could have easily be cut to half the size. The story itself was interesting, though unbelievable at times.
