It's a killer title: The Devil Wears Prada. And it's killer material: author Lauren Weisberger did a stint as assistant to Anna Wintour, the all-powerful editor of Vogue magazine. Now she's written a book, and this is its theme: narrator Andrea Sachs goes to work for Miranda Priestly, the all-powerful editor of Runway magazine. Turns out Miranda is quite the bossyboots. That's pretty much the extent of the novel, but it's plenty. Miranda's behavior is so insanely over-the-top that it's a gas to see what she'll do next, and to try to guess which incidents were culled from the real-life antics of the woman who's been called Anna "Nuclear" Wintour.

Although the book is readable and witty, the author seems to be complaining most of the time. The author, in what appears to be a thinly veiled autobiography, took a job that she really did not want in a field that she really was not interested in, to fulfill her ambitions. Most of the time, she self-importantly denigrates the fashion industry as one too trivial for her. Yet, she suffers through all of itfor an ambition that she bails out on during the 11th hour.

I did, however, enjoy reading this book. Thanks for the opportunity!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

RELEASE NOTES:

This book was frivolous and fun -- exactly what I was in the mood for today! I know nothing of the fashion world -- nor had I heard of most of the designers :) -- so it was fun to have a peek of this world that I have no part in whatsoever. Weisberger makes it so easy to hate Miranda, but frequently I wanted to shake some sense into Andy as well.

It seems like writing this successful book is Weisberger's perfect revenge, if this is the autobiography it seems to be.

Off to Dumbfox, as part of a trade. I hope you enjoy it :)
