Emily comes from a dysfunctional family and has issues. When her mother announces she has been diagnosed with breast cancer, Emily drops everything to help, giving up her career and a will-he, won't he boyfriend. Then her absent father turns up and she is confronted with her past.
Style: chicklit / humour.

Hilarious? Afraid not. It was witty and vaguely amusing, but it was as if the author wanted to write Bridget Jones's Diary with added parental problems and cancer, but failed. The various love interests weren't around enough to make me care about any of them. The parents and sister were all self-absorbed and odd. Emily, the narrator, was just the same only more so because the whole thing was told in her voice. The fact that she recognised the fact that she had a problem and was seeing a shrink didn't make her any more endearing or sympathetic and the idea that she is too empathetic for her own good is frankly laughable. Maybe compared to the rest of her family, but probably not. There were a few insightful moments, but never going deep enough to make them worthwhile. I was underwhelmed.
