Isabel Allende does it again. She writes beautifully (and her translator does the same!). She weaves a story in with history so vividly. It's always a pleasure to read her books and there is always so much to walk away with.

Received at Sunday's BC meetup. Looking forward to reading this.
A historical novel detailing the founding of the nation of Chile. Told as the autobiography of Ines Suarez, a woman who was intimately involved with the event. Allende has embellished the historical facts with a fascinating story from her imagination.
An excellent book that was all the more interesting to me since I had read a bit about Chile prior to visiting it some years ago. I recognized some of the names and places. I went back to one of my books on Chile in order to verify how historically accurate it was. The first picture I saw was of Ines Suarez in armor and brandishing a sword during the defense of Santiago. All of the major characters and events appear to be historically accurate.
