While this book about a World War II romance between a Caucasian American (Peter) and a visiting Japanese college student (Hiroko) had typical Steele in the theme, I found the references to the plight of Japanese Americans after the bombing of Pearl Harbor very appalling. I’ve read a lot of WWII era books and this book brought what was happening in the US to light. It’s hard to imagine these types of concentration camps in the US and the injustices and prejudices the Japanese endured! I felt this book was also a mini history lesson I never learned in school.
This book was a library discard from the Seymour Public Library (CT).
