This book is the story of 7 year old Martha Morse who was Laura Ingalls Wilder's great grandmother. The book takes place in 1788, and is one year in her life. This was an interesting book, and makes me happy not to live back then (females can't go to school - but are allowed to learn to read, write, and do math. They have to learn to sew and knit). I would snap! Then, be burned as witch.

The book now goes to book crosser davenred.

Just got this one in the mail today from Stickerooni...thanks...I have been anxiously awaiting this one. Since my TBR pile is so big, I will share this one with Coasts likely before I get a chance to read it myself. I will rate it when finished. Can't wait!

This was fantastic! A look into life over 200 years ago, my how things have changed...although the simple life sometimes wouldn't be so bad...but then...no computers! I have to agree with Stickerooni...I would likely be burned right beside her.

Alright! This book arrived today. Thanks davenred!

I am interested in most things Laura Ingalls Wilder since she is a relative of mine! (Through her father's side though, not her mother's as this book traces.) Besides this, most of my ansestors were homesteaders, so her Little House series was great.

I'm looking forward to reading this because I lived in Scotland for a while and I really enjoyed visiting the Highlands!

Thanks again!

When I first heard about this book, my thought was: "cool!" Then I starting wondering who the author of this book could be and what in the world would they know about Laura Ingalls Wilder's great-grandmother. Much of the charm for me of the Little House on the Prairie series is that it is based on Laura's own life. I had my doubts about a modern book written about a time so far in the past.

I was pleasantly surprised. It did seem to be written in much the same style as Laura's Little House books. (Though it's been a few years since I read those.) The author definately did research to learn about this time period.

A charming children's book.

I thought this children's book would be an easy, quick read. However, the colloquial speech in the book slowed me down. Laura Ingalls Wilder and I have common ancestry, on her fathers side, not her mothers (maybe that's why the Scotish slang was tedious). The idea of the book was interesting.
