Oops & apologies forgot to record this as caught in May 2019 off the Canongate Publishing book shelf and now that’s a passing note as it skips off to be a fabby birthday book for an honorary BookCrosser in Somerset.

Saw Alan Judd talk at Bloody Scotland in 2017, and thought him fascinating to watch and to listen to. I determined to track down some of his writing, saw this and positively pounced! I had, in 2017, found Edinburgh City Libraries holding Judd’s non-fiction THE QUEST FOR C: Mansfield Cumming and the Founding of the Secret Service (1999) and was looking forward to taking it out but when illness in the family prompted a brisk departure north than plan was laid to one side.

Now with reference to INSIDE ENEMY I’ve checked and found Edinburgh City Libraries also have a copy of this in stock so I was able to unlock my grippy fingers from around it in order to bestow it on another reader. In time I’ll hope to return below with my thoughts on reading it.
---------------------

Charles Thoroughgood is now the recently-appointed chief of a reconstituted MI6, married to his predecessor's widow and tasked with halting the increasingly disruptive cyber attacks on Britain, which are threatening government itself and all the normal transactions of daily life - not to mention a missing nuclear missile-carrying submarine.

At the same time another aspect of Charles Thoroughgood's past emerges with the murder of one of his former agents and the escape from prison of a former colleague turned traitor, whom Charles Thoroughgood had helped convict.

Charles Thoroughgood ploughs a lonely furrow in Whitehall in his belief that all these elements are connected, a theory which dramatically gains credibility when his wife, Sarah, is kidnapped.

Praise for Alan Judd's novels:
'Judd has an infallible grasp of intelligence' Spectator
'Wonderful. One of the best spy novels ever' Peter Hennessey on Legacy
'Entertaining and compulsively readable' Melvyn Bragg on A Breed of Heroes
'Plotting in the best le Carre tradition' Mail on Sunday
'Belongs to the classic tradition of spy writing' Guardian
'Judd infuses his writing with insider knowledge' New Statesman

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Already arrived at its destination with birthday celebrant, honorary BookCrosser Mr Flutterbies9, posted THU 18 JUL 2019. At last my release notes for this with apologies for the delay which has held up the next 'caught' journal entries.

Journal Entry 5 by Flutterbies9 at Meare, Somerset United Kingdom on Monday, August 12, 2019
Apologies, this book has been waiting in a pile of birthday books which in turn were awaiting labels (and some reviews) to be completed. This, however was a mistake as this book did have a label and could have been journaled earlier. Apologies and off to Mr Flutterbies9's tbr of birthday books etc.

Journal Entry 6 by Flutterbies9 at Meare, Somerset United Kingdom on Wednesday, September 18, 2019
Well, Mr Flutterbies9 got over half way through this book and decided that was enough for him! He thought that it was obvious that the writer certainly knew about the world of espionage but somehow he felt that the book lacked a resonant soul and he had others he wished to read more. Sorry, but good thing we are all different, perhaps it would have been different if he had been to Bloody Scotland and heard the author speak too.

I have no plans for this book as yet but feel that it may well find its way into a random bookbox yet.
