This is the only Karin Fossum book I've read. I liked it, but I read that it's not typical. However, that only makes me want to read more of them, and experience what is typical. There is another female Nordic Noir author I read that I hated. I hope the badness of that other novel was due to poor translation, but I fear not. Anyway, Fossum is quite good - very psychologicallly-focused, very low key in the drama, but high voltage in coming up with scary yet believable characters.
