So sad that this is the last Culture novel - and rather cool that it is about passing on to a new level of being.
I was sorely tempted to keep this alongside my own, non-BC copies, of most of the others, but decided it would be unfair not to share when it came as a gift in the first place. If you've read none of the others, fret not - the series is linked by the society in which it takes place rather than narrative, so this is as good a place to start as any. In fact, it may even be better than some of the others as it effectively explores some of the what might loosely be termed religious beliefs of the culture. And if that sounds heavy-going, there are, as ever, cranky AIs to cheer things up!
