cover:
Meeting an elderly spinster in a cozy Yorkshire pub seemed a harmless bit of serendipity for vacationaing Scotlan Yard Superintendent Perry Trethowan. But what Miss Edith Wing carried about in her large blue leather handbag turned out to be nearly dangerous enough to get them both killed.

For the fragile yellowing papers that Miss Wing showed Perry as he sipped his pint of bitters were either a clever forgery or an unpublished Bronte. To a scholar, an authentic manuscript would be a priceless discovery. To a policeman like Perry, it was an interesting opportunity for some literary detection. But for a vicious criminal, it had already become a powerful motive for theft, torture... and even murder.

Nice. I enjoy Robert Barnard's crime tales. This one is a bit cosier than usual.

Picked up from the table at the large Dutch BookCrossing meeting on the beach at Castricum (in a beach café). I should say Dutch-speaking as there is an enthusiastic Belgian contingent. I only read the odd mystery, but one mentioning a missing Brontë caught my attention, so it came home with me. I've only just noticed the kangaroo label on the front cover. Fancy it hopping over all the way from Australia!
