Weldon has a very cynical view of the world, which results in pretty much all of her characters being unlikeable. But I kind of liked the confused narrative voice (which switches randomly between first and third person, often within the same sentence - should be horrible to read, but actually fits really well), and the story was reasonably amusing.

When I read the blurp on the back of this book it rang a bell and I checked it out and yes there was a TV series based on this book. I remember the TV series as being fairly amusing.
