The first of GGK´s Sarantium duo, and a rather slow start, his take on Byzantime-Roman history, interesting characters, though I am afraid his characterization does not ring totally true here for me, it somehow seemed more contrived than his earlier books. The sequel ( when stuff finally starts happening) is better though.

Having only recently discovered G.G. Kay's works, now I'm completely hooked and want to read them all ... And BlossomU, who has a library of infinite proportions (at least, that's what I believe :-) has been kind enough to let me borrow her copies ... To be read soon.
Definitely a slow start, but I have a feeling that this book contains all the premises for a more exciting second part... None of the characters appealed strongly to me (unlike the ones in "The lions of Al-Rassan"), but I like the fact that the women are some of the most intelligent :-)
