Carrie Grethen, partner in crime to William Temple Gault, has escaped from prison. She has also sent Kay Scarpetta a message making it clear she blames her for Gault's death and has plans for revenge. Investigating another case, Scarpetta begins to feel she is being manipulated by an unseen hand.

Dr. Kay Scarpetta is a forensic pathologist, currently investigating a particularly gruesome murder at the scene of a fire in a farmhouse. She is also receiving teasing letters from a serial killer, formerly involved with her family, who has recently escaped from psychiatric prison. It's a trashy American thriller and not my usual read, but I found myself enjoying this, especially as it gets quite gripping towards the end.

Oh heavens. Found this this afternoon whilst moving around a pile of books long since read but not yet moved on since I am making up a crime bookbox. I see this one has not been journalled either but I really cannot recall after all this time what I thought of it. I do know that I did not follow up all the Kay Scarpetta series so I must not have wished to follow the series after all.
