Apart from a plot device that I shan't disclose, I thought this was a very interesting discussion about contemporary Australia. The writing was workmanlike, at times good. The changes in voice between the young narrator and his older self worked well. But overall, I felt that the author has enormous chips on his shoulder about various issues – and it is these that he is trying to discuss, but I felt at times that it was overkill.
