Found on a book exchange shelf where I was leaving a BookCrossing book. If you like the art on this bookplate, maybe visit czukart.com. I was one of the two artists involved in this memorial bookplate for another BookCrosser.

From my 2009 review:
What a marvelous book! Stockett has created a literary gem that manages to encapsulate a slice of American history. Even more astonishing, she manages to (at least ot my ear) realistically portray two women of African-American descent in the mid 60's when segregation was the norm in the south. Usually, when dialect is involved, I cringe and whisper "don't, don't don't" to myself in the hopes that the author will hear and magically make it disappear from the book. But in The Help, Stockett portrays three unique voices of three strong women, each clearly and distinctly. Her portraits of the other characters are equally vivid, and keep the reader enthralled from the get-go all the way through the most informative afterward which tells of Stockett's own childhood in the South.

That this is a debut book is even more astonishing. It's obvious that Kathryn STockett has been honing her craft and skill in other writing, because this was as near perfect as a novel can be. Anyone who lived in America inthe 60's, or who was in some way a part of being raised for cared for by another will slip into this book quite easily (though not always comfortably, for the subject is not always an easy one.)

It is in short, though, a story about women. And to quote Stockett's own words in the story, "Wasn't that the point of the book? For women to realize, We are just two people. Not that much separates us. Not nearly as much as I'd thought."

That's a lesson we'd all do well to heed, I think.
